Beautiful T-Shirt from Wotto

I like wotto but then again so do a lot of people. Wotto is one of the most printed t-shirt designers I know. Apart from his talent and the enormous amount of work he puts out I think that he searches for and submits to an enormous amount of contests. I’m sure he must often get commissioned to do designs too. Wotto designs in general have a recognizable style. Even if you don’t recognize a design as being a wotto right off, when you do find out it’s a wotto you just think…of course. There have been a few exceptions and this latest t-shirt is one. I hope wotto keeps going down the path he has taken too as I really love this new t-shirt he designed that was released on Design by Humans today. The design is superb is totally complemented by the colors on both shirts. Check them out!

Wotto has added three more t-shirts to his own store which is hosted by Big Cartel. Check them out before it’s too late.

Wotto’s Dead Head on preorder

Wotto gets another print and this time with Tilteed. He estimates that he has had over 100 designs printed in the last 2 years. That’s a pretty good record. This design stemmed from Wotto’s interest in Mexican culture. The tee is available on preorder for just $12 for the next week or so.

I came from nothing

I came from nothing is the name of a t-shirt brand that interests me hardly at all. I’m not into zombies on tees as you may realize from the lack them on The T-Shirt Review. They do seem to be popular but they are just not my bag. This store seems to sell t-shirts that would be suitable for the kids clothing section in a discount store at Halloween and only then. I have seen quite a few of these type of t-shirts and I would say that while I admit that the designer(s) in I came from nothing have ability they are far from the best I have seen.

Two t-shirts did stand out though. One of course is instantly recognizable as a Wotto creation and it is my favorite tee in the store.

This next t-shirt below, I admit that I don’t really like it but the design work is very cool. The colors and the illustration are not something that works for me on a shirt but the ferocity of the panda is almost tangible. I would imagine that this tee may even give some kids nightmares.

From what I can see, there are 17 different t-shirts available all at £20 a pop and the store is hosted by Big Cartel. Check out I Came From Nothing for all your Halloween tee desires.

Apart from the tees I think the store needs a lot of work. There is no logo to speak of. There are tons of links (aka leaks) leaving the store to places like Twitter and MySpace. I think it’s cool to have the links but they shouldn’t really be a part of the menu. The menu is for navigation of a site and if done well will keep people there. This store is just begging people to leave the store which is not really something you should be doing. You never hear of bricks and mortars stores hiring deejays to play across the street or around the corner from their stores.

TeeFury Preview

I haven’t seen this happen before but I received a preview of the next three shirts at TeeFury from Teevil, the evil TeeFury bird. (A little bird told me.) It’s a bit weird but I guess it is an attempt to get more sales at the site. The first tee which has already gone on sale is by Wotto.

The second tee is a parody of the infamous Shepard Fairey Obama poster. It’s a mashup of current theme of the month Zombies. Although Zombies are like, sooo last month IMHO…like ya know.

Review: TeeFury T-Shirts

Not that long ago TeeFury had a special sale where you could get a t-shirt for $5. The catch was that you couldn’t choose which t-shirt they sent you. It was basically a lucky dip but for $5 a shirt it was hard to lose. While I didn’t have time to tell you about it I did have time to purchase a few tees at this time. Ahem…sorry about that. The t-shirts arrived pretty quickly and you can check them out below.

The first two t-shirts are Wotto t-shirt. (He sure does get mentioned a lot on this blog.) I like his work but as I have said many times, I think it would be more suited to a children’s book than a t-shirt but they seem to be quite popular. I am actually wearing the Wotto t-shirt as I write this. The first t-shirt, the one I am wearing, is instantly recognizable as a Wotto but I was surprised to find that another that we had received was also a Wotto. It looks like something you would find at Threadless in that it includes a simple joke. When I think of Wotto I don’t think of this type of humor. Cute design but I don’t really dig the light blue.

The third shirt is A Day Late by Greg Abbot. My feeling about this tee? Meh. I like the colors but I’m just not into the text. My wife liked it fine though and she’s the one who has to wear it. Also the print looks bigger in real life than it did at TeeFury which is this case is a good thing.

Two New Tees from Wotto

It’s a big day for British t-shirt designer, Wotto, as he not only made and put up for sale his own t-shirt he was also selected as the winner at t-shirt contest site, Bang Bang T-Shirts. This is his first win at Bang Bang T-Shirts for which he will receive £125 although he has had a t-shirt printed by Bang Bang t-shirts before. He didn’t win the contest in that case but I imagine they reconsidered his entry after realizing how popular he was and that not only would Wotto deliver some sales, he may also attract other people to the site. Anyway, the new t-shirt, which is not available for sale yet is called Making Predictions. As they say, watch this space. (Probably better to watch Bang Bang T-Shirts though.) If I remember correctly all tees are just £10 including shipping to anywhere in the world.

I think the bigger news here though is that Wotto has started selling his own t-shirts using a Big Cartel store where he has already been selling buttons and artwork. The t-shirts are available in Mens and Womens from S to XL and they are printed on American Apparel. Here is the blurb from his store:

Marvellous Musical Marvin is a beastie who likes playing music and squeezing little beasties until they squeak!
The First wotto tee, exclusive to this shop and very Limited Edition on Black. Large print on black American Apparel.

He says it’s a limited edition but let’s hope he has a bit of success and is able to expand his line. The title of the t-shirt gives me some hope that this is indeed the plan:  Limited Edition Wotto Tee No.1 – Marvellous Marvin.

Teextile’s 2nd Week T-Shirts

Not that long ago I talked about the new t-shirt contest site, Teextile and how they were printing shirts that have not been accepted at other sites and that I hoped that they would be able to find some new work and perhaps some new designers but that hasn’t exactly panned out yet. I can see why they wouldn’t risk it though as they are selling the t-shirts for just one day and it will be much easier to sell t-shirts from established t-shirt designers.

Monday’s T-Shirt is Fox Hole by Kins2 and I really love this shirt. It was previously submitted to Design by Humans and it reminds me of another DBH shirt that I actually own: Attack 77 by aliadotony. I prefer this one though and I think it is interesting to note that Teextile will be able to print very large areas. Sweet.

Tuesday’s shirt uses very vivid colors and while it is a very clever design there is no way I would wear it. Those luminous colors might trigger violent flashbacks to late eighties Ireland and the non-fashion we used to wear in the summer months.  You may have seen this at laFraise when it was up for voting and if you miss it at Teextile you can always head over to Cameesa and support it.

Pixel Monsters and Freaks by Basillo is a pretty sweet piece of retro geek chic. Yeah, just wanted to say that. It is a fun design but there are just too many monsters and freaks for my taste. I think one or two rows would have been better. This was also previously submitted at Threadless, Design by Humans and Chimpogo. I think it will probably turn up somewhere else in the future because regardless of whether I like it or not, it is a pretty sweet design and definitely has appeal.

Thursday’s t-shirt is Wrath by Wotto. Yes, that Wotto. He gets around. In fact I just received my first Wotto t-shirt from TeeFury a short while ago. It was a $5 mystery shirt. I like Wotto and my wife has a great Wotto shirt but the shirt I received from TeeFury is way too bright for my taste. (More about that later.) This shirt was previously submitted to Threadless although it no longer appears to be listed there.

Friday’s t-shirt is Fire Song by zitone. It was known as Canção de fogo when it was submitted to Threadless. It is a pretty design and the type of design that my wife would like if she could actually figure what’s going on it it. I think the artist has talent but this t-shirt doesn’t do anything for me.

Well, I don’t think I will be covering Teextile in quite as much detail as in this post and the previous post in the future. Of course if all of their shirts are totally awesome I might just try but I will try to focus on my favorite of the news tees especially if I haven’t seen the designs at another site already.

Win Photoshop CS3 at Fair & Bare

British t-shirt design competition site, Fair & Bare,  which only prints on Fairtrade cotton has a special competition at the moment where, on top of a £200 cash prize (and possibly royalties), you will also get your hands on a nice juicy copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3. I wouldn’t mind getting it myself as I am still using Photoshop CS. And yes, that’s British pounds, so I imagine it’s approximately US$400 which is a pretty decent prize.

Fairy Tale Design Challenge at Fare & Bare

Fairy Tale Design Challenge at Fare & Bare

I’ve had my eye on this store since there was only one item (Tree huggin’ by Wotto) for sale. Truth be told, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of activity over there. Currently there are only 4 designs for sale as t-shirts and only 2 waiting to be scored. Hopefully this competition will attract a few designers but on the other hand I guess most designers already have Photoshop CS3 or perhaps even cs4. It would make a great gift though at it is still being sold for $649 at Amazon.com. Also the fact that there are not many submissions should increase your chances of winning.

The t-shirts cost from  pounds each which is a little more than most of the contest sites but when you factor in that it uses Fair Trade cotton it is probably a bargain. Thinking about it a little more, £12 to £16  is probably pretty standard in the UK.

Now is a great opportunity to get your hands on some quality tees at bargain prices. T-Shirts like the two below, which have both been featured before at The T-Shirt Review, are on sale for as little as $10. I will be purchasing a couple.
