DBH Announce Fleetwood Mac Winners
Filed under: Band T-Shirts, Competitions, Design by Humans
The five winners of the Fleetwood Mac Design contest held by Design by Humans has been announced. There are some pretty sweet designs too. I am bit relieved because I saw a lot of very low quality designs going through.
Review: Uneetee and Jimiyo T-Shirt
No that long ago I got my first Jimiyo t-shirt from Uneetee. Jimiyo’s t-shirts are in general very detailed and they have an almost religious vibe to them. I really appreciate his talent but usually I wouldn’t want to wear one of his shirts. This shirt from Uneetee on the other hand I like. It stands our from his other tees in that it looks like rock and roll or perhaps biker chic. I am neither rock ‘n’ roll nor biker but I have liked this tee from the first time I saw it and now that I have my hands on it I am not disappointed. In fact looking at it close up you can appreciate it even more. Great tee, great designer.
This order from Uneetee came off without a hitch. I was a bit relieved as I had trouble ordering from them before but not this time.

Well, I took a break. Don’t worry. It wasn’t because I was bored of talking about t-shirts. My wife just had our first child and things have gotten pretty hectic. As you can imagine, I may not be posting as frequently as I did before but once my wife and child are both home from the hospital I may have a teeny bit more time and I will try to keep you posted on what’s happening in the world of t-shirts. I have been keeping an eye out. Here is some of what I have been observing without having time to write about. I hopefully will be able to write in more detail later though.
Artist and designer, Jimiyo, has taken a job with Design by Humans. I hope he continues to submit designs to the various contests in his spare time. His design was recently sold on a shirt.woot tee and I just recently received my very own Jimiyo t-shirt from Uneetee. More about that later.
Speaking of Design by Humans, they are holding a Quicksilver design contest and the second of the DBH music series. This time it is the more hip than Fleetwood Mac, Kings of Leon. I hope the designs are better than what I have seen of Fleetwood Mac.
Spreadshirt scored €10 million investment capital and have added some cool and cute stuff to their site. I imagine we will see more and more dramatic changes over there now that they have some spare cash. I will probably talk about it at my relatively new site: POD Helper rather than on the T-Shirt Review. More about POD Helper later.
Oh, and T-Shirt Hell didn’t close down after all. It was a prank. Owner, Sunshine Megatron, says it was a strategy to generate income. Read more at T-Shirt Hell be warned, it is not for the faint hearted.
Yet another contest site will be opening up soon called Teextile. Sorry guys. I didn’t have time to check you out. I will keep an eye on you though. I came across another new t-shirt contest site, a Christian one, but I may have lost the link.
They guys at Zero Boutique sent me a couple of tees to review which I received this morning so that is something to look forward to.
I also came across a picture of the love of my life, my darling wife on a t-shirt blog. It was a bit of a surprise. She is wearing Uneetee’s King Leo. Shirts on Sale if you are curious about the mother of my baby. (Edit: The pic was changed and no longer features my wife.)
Well, there was more and I will tell you about it in more detail later.
PS. For people who have emailed me and haven’t gotten a reply I’ll try to get back to you very soon.
Back in Black T-Shirt Store
I came across this store (Back in Black T-Shirt Exhibit) yesterday and the thing that really caught my attention was the “Sponsored by Design by Humans” logo. Design by Humans seem to be expanding their business but it difficult for me to figure out what they are doing. Recently they announced a partnership with $9 T-Shirt store TeeFury and now I see they have something going with this store here which uses the Big Cartel shopping cart system.
Here is my theory. Design by Humans are doing well and they have some friends who are also in the t-shirt business and they want to help them out a bit and are thus lending their support. It would be a mutually beneficial relationship as DBH will produce the t-shirts but TeeFury and now Back in Black will provide more sales outlets. This is all conjecture of course.
Anyway this new store, Back in Black, has a nice selection of what seem to be one color designs each available on a selection of t-shirts. There is even a Jimiyo t-shirt there. Another cool thing about this store is that there is information about the artists too, so if you like their style you may be able to find their other artwork and t-shirts. A lot of the shirts have a similar style, like the Jimiyo skull shirt below, but there a few exceptions, one of which you can see below.
Jimiyo Shirt on TeeFury
Wow, it’s like all I can talk about these days is either Jimiyo or TeeFury. No, I am not obsessed, it is merely coincidental. Jimiyo is a fine artist and you don’t get the opportunity to purchase his shirts for $9 dollars very often. There is a catch though. There is only a 24 hour window of opportunity. When the 24 hours are up there will be another t-shirt for sale and this one will be gone.
I also just noticed that TeeFury has started shipping internationally for just $5*. Finally, I will be able to check out their quality first hand.
*Shipping costs depend on the destination. Japan is $9.
Jimiyo Interview
Artist and t-shirt designer Jimmy Benedict aka Jimiyo has bared his soul over at new blog, The Familiar Strangers. OK, so baring his soul is a bit melodramatic but it got your attention.
Like the Presidential race, I’ve stopped paying attention to the trends to prevent myself from having a fruitless opinion. When I did pay attention, I became annoyed at tired concepts that had been done over and over. Wait, here’s one: C-Mothereffing-Y-K shirts. (Read more.)
I’m assuming that you didn’t stay around to read this sentence but hey, I need the typing practice. If on the other hand you were foolishly expecting me to drop some pearls of wisdom you are surely disappointed but you can cheer yourself up by purchasing a few of Jimiyo’s creations, some of which you can see below.
Animals are Wild at Threadless
It’s Monday again which means Threadless have released new tees and reprinted some old ones. The good news is that artist Jimiyo has finally gotten recognition at Threadless. His first t-shirt to be printed there is a collaboration effort with AJ Dimarucot aka the110 (of Collision Theory, I believe) and it is a fantastic image of a roaring panda. Yes, I agree that the roaring bear has been done to death but this effort is rescued by its unique artistic styling. The placement of the design is also great. It’s definitely going on my wish list. As time goes on Jimiyo is showing more range and more than ever I am looking forward to seeing what he comes up with next. He has another potential collaboration winner on his hands which you can see on his blog.
This other design is a reprint and it reminds me of the Uneetee t-shirt a reviewed a few posts back. It to a heavily maned lion taking up most of the t-shirt but that is where the similarity ends. This lion looks more like something you would see in a fantasy movie where wise old lions converse with humans on a daily basis. Of course the spectacles lend that effect.
DBH10K 4th Place
Design by Humans have just announced their 4th place winner in their grand DBH10K contest. While the top spot will get you $10,000, 4th gets you a thousand. Still a sweet prize. In this case 4th place goes to Jimiyo’s Fight the Good Fight. This design must have taken a lot of time as the detail is amazing. I like Jimiyo’s work but with a few exceptions they are not t-shirts I would wear. That mostly stems from the fact that middle aged ladies over here wear tops with designs similar to what he produces, in fact similar to this one.
TeeFury – Very Limited Edition T-Shirts
TeeFury is a very new t-shirt store selling extremely limited edition t-shirts. They are limited by time rather than the usual quantity. Their slogan is tee today gone tomorrow. T-shirts will be sold for one day only. Here is some text from their FAQ.
Each tee goes up for sale everyday at midnight eastern time. Once it sells out, or after 24 hours, whichever comes first, that tee is gone. And when we say, “gone”, we mean G-O-N-E – never to be sold again at TeeFury. So, if you see something you like, and it hasn’t sold out yet, you better grab one fast before the fat lady sings.
All tees are just $9 dollars plus $2 shipping. Unfortunately there is no international shipping so people like me can’t avail of this great offer. We also won’t be able to review the quality of the shirts unless someone is kind enough to send us one.
The first t-shirt is a beautiful piece of art by jimiyo so if you are a fan you’d better head over to TeeFury fast as there are only about 15 hours left before this shirt is taken off the market. I suspect though that at some point in the future the t-shirt will be available in a different store though.
