Spreadshirt Design Contest
Spreadshirt have teamed up with Crowdspring for a design contest. The theme is Valentines Day and there are two prizes of $500.

The following excerpt says it better than I could:
Here is what you need to do:
- Go to crowdSPRING.com to find out more about the contest
- Create Valentine’s Day themed vector designs
- Upload your design ideas to your account on crowdSPRING.com
The deadline for submissions is January 15th, 2009. If you’re selected as a winner, Spreadshirt will purchase your design for $500. If you’re not a winner, you can still upload your design to your shop or marketplace and make a hefty buck on the commissions.
Win Photoshop CS3 at Fair & Bare
British t-shirt design competition site, Fair & Bare, which only prints on Fairtrade cotton has a special competition at the moment where, on top of a £200 cash prize (and possibly royalties), you will also get your hands on a nice juicy copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3. I wouldn’t mind getting it myself as I am still using Photoshop CS. And yes, that’s British pounds, so I imagine it’s approximately US$400 which is a pretty decent prize.
I’ve had my eye on this store since there was only one item (Tree huggin’ by Wotto) for sale. Truth be told, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of activity over there. Currently there are only 4 designs for sale as t-shirts and only 2 waiting to be scored. Hopefully this competition will attract a few designers but on the other hand I guess most designers already have Photoshop CS3 or perhaps even cs4. It would make a great gift though at it is still being sold for $649 at Amazon.com. Also the fact that there are not many submissions should increase your chances of winning.
The t-shirts cost from pounds each which is a little more than most of the contest sites but when you factor in that it uses Fair Trade cotton it is probably a bargain. Thinking about it a little more, £12 to £16 is probably pretty standard in the UK.
Loiter T-Shirt Design Contest
While over at Loiter I noticed that they are holding a t-shirt contest with a pretty decent prize: $1,000 plus 20% of all profits from sales forever. Submissions are open until January 31st so get out your virtual 2B pencils and paper and get drawing. Be sure to read the conditions though.
The Office T-Shirt Competition
Filed under: Competitions, Pop Culture, TV T-Shirts
This is a competition for people who are looking for fame rather than fortune. Fans of The Office may (or may not) be delighted to know that their is an official contest calling for people to submit designs that would be used on t-shirts sold on NBC’s shopping website.
I like The Office. It is good light-hearted fun. I don’t think the US version is as funny as the original, or as cringe-worthy, but it is still entertainment. It is much more successful though. I think the main reason, apart from the American audience, is that the main character of the US version, while an ass most of the time, has some redeeming qualities. He is an altogether more sympathetic character.
Anyway, back to the competition. The prizes are pretty lame when you consider the large cash prizes offered at other contests. It is even worse when you consider the amount of money NBC are likely to profit from you designs. On the other hand, The Office brand is the main reason that the winning tees will sell. Unless of course the design is so amazing that non-The Office fans want to wear it too. We’ll see. Prizes below.

I’m a Tee Monster
If someone had told me a few years ago that t-shirts would be such a big part of my life I wouldn’t have believed them. But the fact remains that the evil t-shirt has insidiously inserted itself into my life until it has become almost all I think about recently. (Well, I also think about the baby that is coming my way early next year.) This t-shirt is still in the concept stage unfortunately but hopefully Threadless will pick it to be printed soon. The art work is excellent and for a first submission to Threadless it is nothing short of fantastic. Hopefully it will be the first of many for artist Madolozzo. Apart from the clean lines and original concept the main reason I like this tee is that it represents me. Yes. Me. I am the t-shirt monster. I hide it inside me like Dexter hides the fact that he is a serial killer. So do us all a favor and head over to Threadless and vote for this baby.
UTGP 09 Wants You
UTGP 09 wants you to vote on your favorite t-shirts for their Grand Prix competition. It’s a little confusing over but I think they have narrowed down the 14,584 designs to just 1,000 and then to 200. I know what you are thinking. 14,584 designs is a hell of a lot of designs but the prize is pretty substantial at 3 million yen (about US$30,000) so that would naturally attract a lot of people.
■Evaluation 1st Pass
The UTGP selection committee elected 1000 applications.
Please log in this site and participate in the vote event.
We present UTGP2009 grand prix T-shirt to 100 people or less by lot.

UT T-Shirt Competition
UT is a Japanese t-shirt store which is a part of the Uniqlo store. They have a great selection of t-shirts at bargain prices and they also have an annual t-shirt competition with great prizes called the UT Grand Prix. Uniqlo won the Grand Prix in the Titanium and Cyber Sections at the 2008 Cannes Lions advertising festival for its web-based UNIQLOCK global promotion tool so that is one of the main reasons why they have decided to hold this contest. They are going to produce an official T-shirt for Cannes Lions 2009.
There doesn’t seem to be a cash prize but a trip to Cannes and the fame associated with being the designer of the official t-shirt of the official 2009 Cannes Lion advertising festival should go a long way.
・Grand Prix design will be distributed to guests and members of the media at Cannes Lions 2009 next June.
・The winning applicant for Grand Prix will be invited to Cannes Lions 2009.
For entry details and conditions see the Uniqlo web site.
La Fraise €15,000 T-Shirt Competition
La Fraise is one of the larger European-based t-shirt competition sites and they are having a big contest offering prizes of €5,000 each to three winners. They have put it so succinctly in their blog that I will just copy and paste the information below. This prize should attract some great designers and inspire people to produce great designs.
We wanted to say “thank you” to the community, and we figured every Christmas we give out a certain amount of BR (credits) but what could we do more specific to the designers?
That’s where the “15k Contest” comes in.
Here is the breakdown:-Contest is open to all countries on all laFraise sites.
-Submissions start November 10th - December 1st (then allow 1 week for final voting)
-No other contests will be run during this time.
-We will pick the 9 top designs which will then be put into their own gallery as finalists from December 8th-14th
-3 winners will then be chosen each getting 5,000 Euros (yes thats EUROS!) and their designs will be printed in a limited run. Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with! Good luck!
Update: all designs submitted to the “Classic” contest will be entered into the 15k Contest.
Below are some of the latest (Christmas-themed) shirts on sale at La Fraise.
Ink-Hound.com
Ink-Hound.com is a new t-shirt competition site. They say they are going to release a new t-shirt and cap (yes they do caps too) every two or three days and these will be selected from the top rated designs submitted by users of the site. They already have a few well known names from the t-shirt competition circuit such as Wotto, Mathiole and a.mar.illo involved. The designers get $2 for every item sold and when that print run is over the designer gets the rights to his artwork back. Pretty sweet. It’s like a cross between Design by Humans and TeeFury.
There are a few excellent design competitions out there, but we are aiming to achieve something different. We will not only allow the community to help choose the art that gets printed, but we will have a focus on very limited runs, artists’ rights, and sustainability.
These are a few points that make them stand out from the crowd:
using clean printing techniques with organic inks and offering organic tee options. Also, a portion of each sale will go to charity.
offering a wide variety of apparel options: fitted hats, mens and womens fitted tees, traditional fit tees, mens and womens organic tees, long sleeve tees, and hoodies. T-shirts will sell for $12 and hats for only $16!
They have many great points and features but their website is confusing and quite frankly looks amateurish. The image quality of even the t-shirts is pretty low which is not ideal for a site that is basically trying to sell images. There seems to be no uniformity but rather a hodge podge of design ideas thrown together without much thought. There is a low-res flash panel at the bottom that makes the submissions look worse than they are. The designs are available on several types of apparel but you can’t see what most of the other items look like even without the designs on them. Normally I would be wary of using my credit card on a site that looks like it was put together in ten minutes but as I am familiar with the designers I can trust it. It’s a new site though and apart from the fact that it looks like a site that was created before before people heard of css I like what they are trying to do. Hopefully they will re-plan and redesign the site before they scare away too many potential customers.
To celebrate the launch everything is on sale and you can get a tee like the following a.mar.illo design for just $6. (You have to add to cart from the shop page before you click on the design.) This is a time limited offer though so don’t wait.
Zazzle.co.uk Opens its Virtual Doors
Zazzle have opened up their UK site but there announcement leaves a lot of questions on the table. I am guessing that the products will be produced and shipped from the UK to all EU countries. I base this assumption on the fact that the FAQ says they will use the Royal Mail. If this is true it will save money on import duties that the British would previously have had to pay if shipped from the US.
For shopkeepers it seems to be a great new source of income as I’m sure many British people will be happier to buy from a store that sells it’s items in pounds rather than dollars. I noticed that for each of my .com stores there is already an equivalent .co.uk store so I don’t even have to do any extra work to set them up. You can check them out below. From what I have read in the forums our tracking is already included.
I also note that the sites are treated as one in terms of visits, tracking and such. My Analytics code is already entered for me on the UK site - the same as is tracking my US pages - and the number of visits is about the same.

The UK stores are almost mirrors of the originals. I have noticed a few differences apart from the currencies though. For a start, you can pay for your items with PayPal which I don’t believe is possible with Zazzle.com. On the other hand it seems that you can’t get you commission paid by PayPal even though you can with Zazzle.com. It’s very confusing but hopefully these are just a few kinks that will be ironed out soon enough. It is a little worrying though as I really don’t want to receive cheques if possible. It looks like our royalties will be in separate accounts too. It means that I have more accounts to manage.
The sooner Zazzle consolidates the financial aspects of our accounts the better as they are already getting out of hand. If you had five accounts to monitor before you now have ten. If, as rumour has it, they open up even more domains it will become ridiculous. The volume bonus reports to still seem to be working from one account though.
It is nice that the volume bonus is combined with my US accounts (although the currency conversion seems to be off, unless one pound is all of a sudden equal to exactly one dollar - you never can tell these days).
Anyway, it’s all good and to celebrate the launch of Zazzle.co.uk Zazzle have announced a design contest with 5 prizes of £500 (notice the £ not $). It is only open to UK residents. Find out more at Zazzle.co.uk.
