A couple of weeks ago we received a few t-shirts from Ban T-Shirts. If you missed the T-Shirt Review interview with Duncan from Ban T-Shirts now is a good time to check it out. Ban T-Shirts is an online t-shirt store that specializes in t-shirts with messages. These messages are basically all about issues that Duncan, who does most of the designs, is passionate about.

The first is  an alternative dinosaur tee. At first glance I thought the design work on this is pretty weak . It looks like something from a children’s coloring book and then I realized that that is probably the intended effect because this topic is basically a stab at the education system or rather the hurdles it has to cross. Well, that’s my reading of it anyway. I think that this tee is subtle attack against the teaching of creationism in our schools. I love the green color of the American Apparel shirt. It’s called grass green apparently. The shirt is not something that I would buy but I would be happy enough to wear it as I agree with the message and it’s great for Paddy’s Day.

The second t-shirt has and even stronger message but it wouldn’t win any design awards. This t-shirt is a protest about shark finning, the practice of removing fins from sharks for food. While many of you think of sharks as scary predators who deserve to die just for killing all those people in Jaws or for being so lame in Jaws 3D you probably won’t get this shirt.

I like the colors of the design, the ever popular blue and red, but I don’t really think they are appropriate for a design like this. Red and blue are often associated with patriotism rather than protest. On the back of the t-shirt there is also the url of an anti-shark-finning site which is a great way to get the message across but it does detract from the overall aesthetic.

Both tees are printed on organic cotton as are all the tees at Ban T-Shirts. Shark Finning costs $19.95 and Dinosaurs, $17.95. While I don’t think the designs at this site are amazing there is definitely something attractive about their simplicity. If you want to wear your politics on your sleeve head on over to Ban T-Shirts and you may find what you need. If you don’t agree with the politics on Ban T-Shirts and are passionate about your point of view, Duncan is currently accepting hate mail (as well as well grounded arguments) which may even be published on the Ban T-Shirts site.
