There is a great new t-shirt over at Threadless today called Attack of Literacy. It is done in a very cool old fashioned comic book style and given a vintage effect. One thing that I am curious about though is who they are. The t-shirt states – “TWENTY RENOWNED AUTHORS OF THE CLASSICS STAR IN…”. I wonder who they are. I can recognize four (maybe). Later ones have been added from users comments.

  1. James Joyce (far left)
  2. Edgar Allen Poe (in front of and to the right of Joyce)
  3. William Shakespeare (2nd from the left in front)
  4. Ernest Hemingway (far right)
  5. Charles Dickens (right behind Shakespeare)
  6. Mark Twain (right to the left of scared victim)

I want to say that’s Dickens right behind Shakespeare. And is the gruff looking older gentleman, right to the left of the scared victim, Mark Twain?

i believe that is frederick douglass two people left of shakespeare. and, this could be a leap, but kafka to the left of poe?

  3. Joseph Conrad is to the left of Shakespeare (to the right of Douglass. To the left of Douglass is Francis Bacon.
That may or may not be Hemingway on the far right. Might be one of the Russians.

  4. and between Shakespeare and Hemingway (?) is definitely Oscar Wilde.
